Who needs Honeybaked?

I don't know about you guys, but I am a real fan of ham....actually I really love pork (BACON) in general. I always look forward to Easter because my Mom always either cooks a ham or buys a Honeybaked ham. I had never cooked a ham until about a year ago, because I had no idea how and I thought it took hours of oven time. Boy was I wrong! I have been following Stephanie O'Dea for a while now over at crockpot365.com and she posted a recipe for a copycat honeybaked that looked so good! I didn't have all of the ingredients on hand, so I winged it and made it my own and now it's a family favorite. Let me just pause here and tell you that if you haven't been over to her website, you should check it out. She has so many great recipes for the crockpot, you won't regret it! Now back to your regularly scheduled blog. So, this is how you make it and you won't believe how easy it is. Before I start, I must tell you to make sure you get the butt portion of ham when you go shopping, the shank portion won't fit in the crock (don't ask me how I know that).

You will need:

Ham (the butt portion)
1 cup Karo dark corn syrup
1 can pineapple chunks in juice
brown sugar

First you need to rub brown sugar all over the ham and place it flat side down in the crock.

Pour about a cup of Karo over the ham. I know it's really bad for me, but I only use it a couple times a year, so don't fuss at me.

The new bottles have a line for measuring right on the side, so no need to dirty a measuring cup!

Pour the pineapple chunks and juice over the ham.

Okay, here comes the hard part. Put the lid on and cook it on low for 4-6 hours. That's it! It is so yummy, my whole family devours it every time I make it. We eat the pineapple and the ham. The pineapple just sort of soaks in the broth and brown sugar and each piece bursts with flavor. The ham tastes salty and sweet all the way through. Not to mention how tender it is from cooking all day long. Of course the best part is that you don't have to slave all day for your meal which leaves more time for blogging :). Unfortunately, I got so excited about the ham that I forgot to take a picture of the finished project, so you will just have to cook it to see how awesome it is. Let me know in the comments if you try this ham and what your family thinks about it.
